As part of the effort to avert a looming crisis; Eskom offers a variety of funding methods for businesses wanting to reduce energy. One type of light Eskom is particularly eager to get out of the system is the 50w halogen down lighter, which can be replaced with a much more efficient LED that can save as mush as 86% of the energy consumed. With over 30 million in use across the country, this is a lot of energy that can be saved.

If you are in business, and you have these lights burning more than 12 hours a day, then you should qualify for funding that will cover the entire cost of replacement. The other criterion is that the saving achieved must be sustained for at least three years after installation. Even if they burn for shorter periods, there will be some funding available from Eskom to help with the cost of replacement.
